Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich
ETH Zurich is a world-class scientific and technology university noted for its cutting-edge research and innovation. It was founded in 1855 as the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School, and it now has 21 Nobel laureates, two Fields Medalists, three Pritzker Prize winners, and one Turing Award winner among its graduates, including the famous Albert Einstein himself.
The institution, formally known as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in English, is divided into 16 departments that provide academic teaching and scientific research in fields ranging from engineering and architecture to chemistry and physics.
At ETH Zurich, education blends solid theory with practical application, and most degree programmes are built on solid mathematical foundations. The primary teaching language for undergraduates is German, but the majority of master's and doctorate programmes are in English.
ETH Zurich is located in Zurich, Switzerland's largest city, and has two main campuses: downtown Zurich and a contemporary campus erected on a hill on the outskirts of town. Students at ETH study hard, but they also have time for cultural and recreational activities, as well as attending the numerous regular symposia and conferences on campus, where some of the brightest minds in science come to speak.
ETH students like exercising their bodies as well as their minds, and there are several sports available on campus. The SOLA relay race is the largest yearly event, taking place in 14 stages over a total distance of 140 kilometres. The yearly spectacle has been known to attract over 900 teams at once.
Students have also been able to show off their best movements at the Polyball, a famous ball event featuring live music by various orchestras and bands, since the 1880s. Every November, 10,000 dancers, music fans, and partygoers gather on ETH's lavishly adorned main building for a spectacular evening.
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich is ranked #26 in Best Global Universities and ranked #9 in QS World University Rankings.
