Dharmendra: We don't need the industry to acknowledge us

Deols have two good reasons to rejoice. Gadar 2 and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, both starring Dharmendra, have achieved enormous success. Dharmendra still believes that despite their accomplishments, their family has never received the respect it deserves. He feels that Bobby Deol is also doing well for himself, in addition to him and Sunny, but that no one "acknowledges" what his family has accomplished.

The veteran actor recently spoke with Times Now about his family, saying that they don't "market" themselves and prefer to let their work speak for them. Despite being a part of two of the biggest blockbusters, Sunny Deol, in the opinion of his father, has never boasted about them.

But my family has never received our due, said Dharmendra. He claimed that his family "don't mind" that the industry does not recognize their contribution to Hindi cinema because they "survive" on the love of their followers. He added that he didn't win anything for the 1969 movie Satyakam. Sharmila Tagore, Ashok Kumar, and Sanjeev Kumar also acted in the movie.

Dharmendra, who explained to Times Now that his family does not believe in self-promotion since they feel that their work should speak for itself. "Sunny (Deol) is a part of two of the greatest box office hits ever. He will never brag about his accomplishments. Bobby (Deol), my younger son, is doing well for himself as well. However, nobody has ever treated my family fairly. We're not bothered.

The actor claimed that they don't need the support of the industry because the love of their fans is enough to sustain them. Additionally, he claimed that his 1969 movie Satyakam, which featured Sharmila Tagore, Sanjeev Kumar, and Ashok Kumar, didn't win any prizes.

Speaking further about Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani's popularity, the Yamla Pagla Deewana expressed his happiness at being a part of a movie where everyone receives recognition. A "wonderful filmmaker—kind, generous, and patient," as he praised Karan Johar. The actor expressed his desire to collaborate with him once more. Additionally, he praised Ranveer and Alia, saying, "Bohot pyare bachche hain, and so talented!"
