Cricket Australia stated that Lanning was requested to stay at home to handle the situation but did not specify when she would be returning.

Meg Lanning, the captain of Australia, has withdrawn from the upcoming Women's Ashes tour of England owing to health concerns, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Saturday. Alyssa Healy will now serve as the team's captain.

Lanning was told to stay at home to take care of the situation, and CA offered no timetable for her return. The 31-year-old has now missed the Ashes twice, after her absence from the home 2017–18 series due to a shoulder issue.

Prior to rejoining the team and guiding Australia to the T20 World Cup championship in South Africa earlier this year, Lanning had likewise taken an extended leave from the sport in August for personal reasons.

Shawn Flegler, CA's Head of Performance for women's cricket, stated, "It's an unfortunate setback for Meg, and she's obviously disappointed to have been disqualified from the Ashes."

She will be missed since it's a big series for the squad, but she recognises the importance of prioritising her health.

Meg will continue to recover at home, working with medical professionals to resume playing as soon as feasible.

Lanning has won the T20 World Cup five times and the 50-over World Cup twice, making him one of the most decorated players in the game. Additionally, she helped Australia win a gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Lanning would not be replaced in the team, according to CA, as Australia Players would be called up if necessary, as a team is also visiting the UK.

Australia, which is attempting to win back the Ashes, will play England in a test match at Trent Bridge from June 22 to June 26, followed by three Twenty20 games and three one-day internationals, with the trip coming to an end on July 18.
