Instagram Worldwide Outage Resolved, Majority Of Users Regain Access

Following a worldwide outage that impacted thousands of users, Instagram is back up.

According to the firm, the majority of users of Instagram from Meta Platform Inc. (META.O) have access to the site again after a technical problem that affected thousands of users was fixed on Sunday.

A technical problem earlier today prevented some users from accessing Instagram. For everyone who was impacted, we rapidly found a solution, a Meta representative told Reuters.

The number of users impacted by the outage was not made public by the firm. The outage monitoring service Downdetector.com reported over 100,000 instances in the US, 24,000 in Canada, and more than 56,000 in the UK.

At the height of the outage, more than 180,000 users reported having trouble using Instagram.

On Sunday at roughly 5:45 p.m. EST (2145 GMT), Downdetector.com, an outage monitoring website, reported that Instagram was unavailable for certain users. As of 8:30 p.m. EST, the number of outages had decreased to little over 7,000 complaints.

By combining status updates from several sources, including users, Downdetector keeps track of outages.
