Actor and Filmmaker Manobala Passes Away at 69 in Chennai

Manobala, an actor and filmmaker, died on Wednesday in Chennai. He was 69. Rajinikanth, the veteran actor, and producer G. Dhananjayan both paid their respects.

Manobala, an actor-filmmaker who began his career as an assistant director before going on to helm over a dozen films, died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Chennai. According to his spokesperson, he was admitted to the hospital 10 days ago and was being treated for a liver condition. He was 69 years old and was survived by his wife and son.

Veteran actor Rajinikanth paid tribute to his 'close buddy' Manobala on Twitter in Tamil. "I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend Manobala, a famous director and actor," Rajinikanth tweeted. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. "May his soul find peace."

Producer G Dhananjayan also rushed to Twitter to express his grief at Manobala's death. "Shocking and unbelievable that such a sweet person and a good friend, Manobala sir, passed away," he tweeted. Manobala began his film career as an assistant director on Bharathiraja's Puthiya Vaarpugal in 1979. He also had a minor role in the film. With the 1982 Tamil film Aagaya Gangai, he made his directorial debut. He also directed Mera Pati Sirf Mera Hai, a Hindi film starring Jeetendra. Pillai Nila, Sirai Parvai, and Oorkavalan are among his other directorial efforts. His most recent project as a filmmaker was the 2002 Tamil film Naina.

He has worked as an actor for the past two decades. He has appeared in over 200 films and was most known for his humorous character parts. His most recent film performance was in Ghosty, a Tamil horror comedy directed by Kajal Aggarwal.
