In just 22 minutes, you may go from Mumbai to Goa! India's longest sea bridge will be completed soon; 93% of the work has been completed.
Mumbai to Goa in around 22 minutes! The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, India's longest sea bridge, will cut travel time from two and a half hours to roughly 22 minutes. The 22-kilometer-long bridge will connect the island city to the mainland between Sewri and Nhava Sheva, bringing Goa, Pune, and Nagpur closer to Mumbai.
The construction of the 18,000 crore project began in 2018. According to The Times of India, approximately 93% of the construction work at the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link site has been finished.
The MTHL project will connect south Mumbai to the development of Navi Mumbai. The MMRDA, a Maharashtra government body, is in charge of carrying out the 21.8-kilometer, six-lane MTHL project, which is funded by the Japan International Cooperation body.
When completed, it will be India's longest sea bridge, accommodating 70,000 vehicles per day.
The project's goal is to increase connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region by building the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which will connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai while reducing traffic congestion and fostering economic development.
This "longest sea bridge in the country" will be the country's first using an open road tolling (ORT) system. Once the bridge is ready for traffic, it would be feasible to drive in 15 to 20 minutes from Sewri in central Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated earlier this year that the Open Tolling System will eliminate the need for motorists to halt on the bridge to pay tolls. According to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials, this technique is currently in use in Singapore.
In January of this year, MMRDA successfully launched the first longest orthotropic steel deck (OSD) in Package 2 of the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL).
The first OSD of Package 2 of the approximately 22-kilometer-long Trans-Harbour link between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai is 180 metres long and weighs 2300 metric tonnes.
