Lions trade former No. 3 overall pick Jeff Okudah to Falcons
According to Jeff Okudah's agent Kevin Conner of Universal Sports & Entertainment Management, the Detroit Lions are trading Jeff Okudah to the Atlanta Falcons.
According to a source who spoke to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Falcons will give the Lions a fifth-round pick in this year's drafting in exchange.
Okudah, a young cornerback selected third overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, sees the change as a new beginning.
While Okudah's first two professional seasons were hindered by injury to just 10 games each, he started 15 games for the Lions in 2022 and had his finest football early in the season. In 2022, he recorded his first pick-six of his career while setting career highs in tackles and passes defended.
The addition of Cam Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley by the Lions in free agency this offseason, both of whom are expected to start at cornerback, makes trading Okudah more agreeable.
The Falcons made a splash in free agency this year, signing linebacker Kaden Elliss, safety Jessie Bates III, defensive lineman Calais Campbell and David Onyemata, and now they have added Okudah to their defence.
For the No. 2 cornerback position opposite A.J. Terrell, who was selected after Okudah in the 2020 draft, Okudah will face off against Casey Hayward.
