No threat was found on the University of Oklahoma campus

Nearly 90 minutes after the university issued a warning that an active shooter was present on Friday, officials announced that the University of Oklahoma's campus in the city of Norman is safe and that there is no threat to the surrounding area.

Eric Foster, a trooper with the Oklahoma State Highway Patrol, confirmed to CNN that the campus is secure and that no injuries have been recorded. A "all clear" alert was also sent by university police.

"No threat was detected despite a comprehensive search. Campus is not under danger. At 10:53 on Friday night, the institution announced on Twitter that the alert had been discontinued.

The institution tweeted that there was an active shooter just before 9:30 p.m. CT and advised people to "take immediate action now. Run. Hide. Fight!"

A second tweet that stated campus police were looking into "possible shots fired" on school property came after the initial warning.

Don't go near South Oval. Stay put," the university had said.
