Three New Star Wars Films Have Been Announced
James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy all have new films in development, according to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Three new live-action Star Wars movies are coming, according to Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy, who made the announcement today at the Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023. James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Emmy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy are directing the motion pictures. (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face).
While Dave Filoni's film will centre on the New Republic and wrap up the interconnected tales shown in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ programs, James Mangold's film will travel back to the beginning of the Jedi. In the sequel to Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey as she founds a new Jedi Order.
We've been doing a lot of television, as you can tell, and we're exploring a lot of different storylines. Kennedy stated, "This truly stems from what George Lucas described years ago, which was that he designed Star Wars to advance and recede along a mythological timeframe. "We're excited to be working with some of the best and most passionate filmmakers on projects that will span the past, the present, and the future," the authors write. "Now we're looking to broaden that timeline, building a rich future, expanding upon the present, and going deep into the past to tell our stories."
