Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App, was killed in San Francisco at the age of 43

According to the crypto currency platform and police, Bob Lee, a technology executive who developed Cash App and is now the chief product officer of Mobile Coin, was fatally stabbed in San Francisco early Tuesday.

According to a press release from the San Francisco Police Department, officers went to a report of a stabbing on Main Street at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday and discovered a 43-year-old man with apparent stab wounds. The deceased passed away in a hospital.

The victim was not identified by police, but Mobile Coin verified Lee's death in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

"Bob Lee, our dear friend and colleague, died yesterday at the age of 43." "He is survived by a loving family and a group of close friends and collaborators," said Mobile Coin CEO Josh Gold bard in a statement.

Lee was "made for the new world," according to Gold bard.

"From his significant contributions to Android at Google to being the first CTO of Square, creating CashApp, and collaborating with us here at Mobile coin, Bob undoubtedly had an impact that will last far beyond his brief time on Earth," he said.

Lee joined Mobile Coin as an early-stage investor and advisor before becoming chief product officer and assisting in the debut of the Moby app, according to Gold bard. Lee was the chief technology officer at Square in 2013, when the company introduced a money transfer app now known as Cash App.

Ron Conway, founder of the San Francisco-based investment company SV Angel, wrote on Wednesday that Lee's death was "an immense tragedy."

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Bob's family and the entire tech community," Conway said. "I recall fondly Bob's inspiring speech at our CEO Summit. We've lost a great innovator, intellect, and spirit." I'm hoping a suspect is captured soon."

The police statement provided no information about the events of the stabbing.

"This is a live and ongoing investigation." As a result, we are not disclosing any additional information," said Officer Niccole Pacchetti, a public information officer, in an email. "We will provide additional information as it becomes available."
