India became the winner of Women's Asia Cup-2022

The Indian team won by 8 wickets in the final against Sri Lanka at Shellat. Thus, they claimed the 7th Asia Cup title. India came into the ring with a short target of 66 runs and lost only 2 wickets.

Among the Indian batters, opener Smriti Mandhana (51) finished the match unbeaten. Sri Lanka, who won the toss and batted first in this crucial match, lost 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and were limited to just 65 runs as the Indian bowlers burst into action. In this match, Indian pacer Renuka Singh gave an excellent performance.

Renuka took three wickets in her quota of four overs and conceded just 5 runs. Along with her, spinners Rajeshwari Gaikwad and Sneh Rana took two wickets each and ruled the downfall of Sri Lanka. Apart from Ransinghe (13) and Ranveera (18), the rest of the Sri Lankan batsmen were limited to single digit scores.

Harmanpreet Kaur | Indian skipper : We should give credit to the bowlers, and the fielding unit was very good today from ball one. We didn't want to give them easy runs as every ball is important. We are proud of the way we performed today. You've got to read the wicket and place the field accordingly. We did that very well and placed the fielders accordingly, and that really helped us. We were not looking at the scoreboard; we were just looking at the short targets we had for ourselves, and it all worked out well.

Chamari Athapaththu | Sri Lankan skipper : It was a tough day as a team, not a good batting display in the finals, and I'm really upset today. Next, we have the T20 World Cup, and we learned a lot of things in this tournament, and as a batting unit, we have to stick with our plans. I'm really happy with my bowling league. We have a couple of young players and hope they continue their performances as a batting unit. We do not have a lot of experienced players, but they are good players, and I think they will play a lot of cricket in the future.

Deepti Sharma, Player of the Tournament : I am really happy with the way we performed as a unit from the first game till today. We executed what was discussed in the meeting. I just backed into my strengths and those things helped me a lot in this tournament. The wickets were slow and before this tournament, I worked a lot on my batting and those sessions really helped me. This win gives us a lot of confidence going into the upcoming series as well.

Renuka Singh | Player of the Match : Very happy because the last few games I didn't bowl well. I practised with my coach and the staff, and they really helped me get back into my rhythm. I just focused on my basics and got success. My whole team supported me really well, and credit should go to my captain, coach and the staff.
