As a 7-year-old girl was discovered dead in a bag, Kolkata Police vehicles were damaged.
Police discovered the girl's body in one of the flats in an apartment building in the neighbourhood after conducting a thorough search because she had been missing since Sunday morning.
In Kolkata's Tiljala neighborhood, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly killed after being sexually assaulted by one of her neighbours. This prompted neighbourhood residents to stop roads and railroad tracks and vandalise police cars on Monday.
After conducting a thorough search, police discovered the girl's body inside one of the units of an apartment building in the area where she lived on Kustia's Shri Dhar Roy Road. She had been missing since Sunday morning, according to the police. The victim was transported for a post-mortem examination after the flat owner was taken into custody.
On Sunday night, people conducted demonstrations outside the Tiljala Police Station and committed vandalism in the neighborhood, damaging many vehicles, demanding stern action against the offender. They claimed that the police "delayed" in their search for the missing girl. According to a police official, three people, among them a lady, have been detained for their apparent involvement in the damage.
Locals blocked up the highways in the Tiljala area on Monday morning in protest of the detainees' continued detention. They blockedaded the crucial EM Bypass and railway tracks in the South Sealdah area in the afternoon, causing disruptions to both train and vehicle traffic. According to a police officer, three police cars were broken into and one of them was set on fire.
When a sizable team of security forces arrived to disperse them, locals also threw stones at police officers. The policeman stated, "We are conversing with the protesters and monitoring the situation.
