Final Fantasy 16 narrative and release date

Final Fantasy 16 will be released on June 22, 2023, as revealed at The Game Awards in December 2022. You can see the story and gameplay trailers down below.

STORY OF FINAL FANTASY 16

Of course, the core to each Final Fantasy game is its cast of characters and the tale that surrounds them. The video and material Square has given so far tell us a lot about what awaits us in the sixteenth game.

The game is set in Valisthea, a continent separated into six kingdoms and governed by the mountainous Mothercrystals, the world's wellspring of magic. Everything is not good, as you might expect; each nation has a "dominant," a live person who possesses a lethal power known as a "eikon, which may manifest as a giant monster. Some of these people are regarded like kings, but others are treated more like weapons.

Clive Rosfield, our key protagonist at this point, has promised to defend his younger brother, Joshua, who is a domineering figure. Jill Warrick, on the other hand, is a close friend of both. This trio has been described in depth, but we don't know much more than that a tragedy will begin a quest for vengeance led by Clive.

Gameplay of Final Fantasy 16

Amusingly, we learned in late June 2022 that the game will include just British accents, with no Americans to disturb the accepted image of a European-style environment. According to producer Naoki Yoshida, the English voice performers will have complete lip-syncing as well.

Based on what we've seen so far in the trailers, Final Fantasy 16 appears to be an evolution, rather than a revolution, in the series' current gameplay. Real-time fighting, like in FF15, will keep things interesting, but the system appears to be more dynamic and speedy.

Thus far, the gameplay has also been centred on a single player character rather than a party; this might be a significant departure for the franchise following decades of releases in which you controlled the actions of many characters as they fought together.

For the first time, prolonged gameplay was shown off in a set of previews towards the end of February 2023, including the below look at a huge boss encounter, which is rather informative.

Other from that, we'd expect an overworld to explore, like in prior editions, and a slew of sidequests to do if we so choose. We're hoping that this will be more engaging than it was in FF15, when exploration was hampered by the game's reliance on roadways. We're looking forward to going about the countryside a little more this time, with a more high fantasy-style backdrop.

This assumption was somewhat debunked in a large interview with GameSpot, with producer Naoki Yoshida clarifying that the game will include open hub regions but not a totally open world.

He also stated that the Eikon fights seen in the June 2022 gameplay trailer would be a big aspect of the game, with players being able to take direct control through Clive at times. Clive will occasionally navigate these conflicts as a human, dwarfed by the Eikons above him.
