Jimmy Garoppolo Will Sign With The Raiders, Thereby Ending His Stint With The 49ers: Reports

Jimmy Garoppolo's stint with the 49ers is allegedly coming to an end after 5 1/2 seasons. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who cited a source, Garoppolo is expected to sign a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, with $34 million guaranteed.

The rumoured move reunites Garoppolo with Raiders coach Josh McDaniels, who previously worked with the veteran quarterback with the New England Patriots. Garoppolo is also well-known to Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler.

The three were teammates in New England from 2014 to 2017, while Garoppolo played with the Patriots. Garoppolo earned two Super Bowl championships as a backup to Tom Brady alongside then-offensive coordinator McDaniels and Ziegler, who worked as both assistant director of pro scouting and director of pro personnel during the quarterback's stint there.

Garoppolo was traded from the Patriots to the 49ers in October of the 2017 NFL season, and he went on to play in three NFC Championship Games and Super Bowl LIV with San Francisco. Garoppolo has a passing rating of 99.2 in 57 games with the 49ers, with 13,599 yards, 82 touchdowns, and 42 interceptions.

Garoppolo has a 38-17 record as the 49ers' starter and won four of his six postseason games with the team. He brought winning football back to the Bay after several bad years, and the 49ers supporters will be eternally grateful.
