Aaron Rodgers appeared to break his silence as the football world awaits his decision on his future. At the very least, his Twitter account did. Nonetheless, the message might be the work of someone else.
Rodgers has mainly stayed tight-lipped as the Jets and Packers purportedly close in on a deal for the superstar quarterback and as he considers retirement. or a possible Jets future.
Nevertheless, late Monday evening, Rodgers' Twitter account sent an unclear message of "SULLLLLL," along with two smiling face emojis. Following initial misunderstanding regarding the message's significance, Rodgers' Packers teammate—at least for the time being—revealed he was most likely behind the deed.
"I told y’all I have his phone," Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas tweeted, accompanied with three smiling face emojis and three shrugging emojis.
In an apparent attempt to establish he possessed Rodgers' phone, "SULLLLL" appeared to be a reference to the end of Douglas' first name. Earlier in the day, Douglas took to Twitter from his own account to endorse the Packers' efforts to keep Rodgers in the wake of several Jets players publicly pitching the 39-year-old quarterback.
"Because we have his number," Douglas wrote, quoting a post that questioned why Packers teammates didn't beg him to remain on Twitter. "We can actually text him instead of writing it on social media. As our leader, he knows how each person on the roster feels about him."
Rodgers appreciated Douglas' post. After like Douglas' tweet, the cornerback reacted to a fan who asked, "This you, bro?" with a screenshot of Rodgers' Twitter likes. "Hell yeah, I'm like my own tweets on his phone," Douglas replied, using two laughing face emojis.
Douglas followed up a few minutes later, tweeting, "What do you want me to post on his account and I will, anything that indicates it's me?" In response to a fan's challenge to substantiate his claim, he responded with three eyeball emojis.
The tweet came on Rodgers' account around 40 minutes later. Many Jets players, including Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, rejoiced after Trey Wingo announced that Rodgers had opted to join the Jets and that a deal was nearly complete.
