At the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, the four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme was officially launched on Monday by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. A new online course for the BS in Electronic Systems will be offered. Candidates can enrol in this undergraduate programme without taking the Joint Entrance Test, unlike other undergraduate programmes provided by the school (JEE). IIT Madras said the programme will have multiple exit options, allowing students to leave with a certificate, diploma, or to complete the entire course and obtain a BS degree. The programme was launched with the aim of meeting the growing demand for skilled graduates in India's electronics and embedded manufacturing sectors. The initiative supports the India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to turn India into a centre for the production and design of electronics worldwide. After the BS Degree in Data Science and Applications, which has more than 17,000 students enrolled right now, this is IIT Madras' second online BS programme, the institute said. The course price has been maintained reasonable with additional scholarships for SC, ST, and PWD students as well as those whose family income is less than 5 lakh per year, it stated, with the goal of making IIT education more accessible.

Pradhan spoke at the inauguration ceremony and stated, "IIT Madras has added a new degree to its resume after successfully offering BS in Data Science for the past few years: BS in Electronic Systems. This method of putting into practise the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is the best one. This BS in Electronic Systems complies with every recommendation of the NEP, including flexibility, job orientation, entrepreneurship orientation, credit framework, multiple entry and exit points, and, most importantly, affordability in the Indian higher education system with quality and accessibility." Students who complete this degree, according to IIT Madras, may find employment prospects in sectors like automotive, semiconductor, and defence for jobs like electronic system designer, embedded system developer, electronic hardware expert, and system testing engineer, among others.and research engineer in electronics. At IIT Madras, there is no maximum age for the BS in Electronic Systems programme. Applicants must have completed math and physics in their Class 12 or the equivalent.
