A 20-year-old Queensland professional motocross racer has been recalled as a larrikin who "touched the lives of many" after his death at an event on Sunday. On Sunday morning in Wonthaggi, Ipswich resident Brayden Erbacher was taking part in round one of the ProMX Championship when he fell from his bike during a race. After receiving emergency care and medical attention for a serious head injury, he passed away at the spot. The incident is being looked into by the police and WorkSafe Victoria, and Motorcycling Australia cancelled the competition and sent hundreds of participants and spectators home. On behalf of the family, Corinne, his mother, released a statement in which she paid a heartfelt homage. "We would want to thank the whole motocross community for their support today when our entire world came apart," the family said. Many people's lives were impacted by Brayden, and we were incredibly happy to be his parents. He was a larrikin who was happiest while riding his bike, strumming his guitar, and simply hanging out with his friends and family. "His death has created a hole that will never be repaired." James Beston, a friend and fellow rider, paid a heartfelt homage to Erbacher on Sunday night through Instagram. They say no one is perfect, but you were pretty darn near to it, Beston said in a message to his lifelong buddy. "You always went above and above to support a friend, giving your own shirt off your back for anyone. Even when something wasn't humorous, you always made everyone laugh by giving it your all. While you are no longer with us, your contagious grin and goofy laugh will always be with us. You had a way of making us smile. In a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday, Motorcycling Australia confirmed the cancellation of the event and said that WorkSafe Victoria had been informed. A major event has forced the abrupt cancellation of round one of the ProMX Championship in Wonthaggi in Victoria, according to a statement. There won't be any other comments at this time while the situation is being examined.
