Romas Mancini Defeats Juventus 1-0 With A Long Range Goal

Gianluca Mancini's long-range goal gave AS Roma a 1-0 victory against Juventus at home in Serie A on Sunday, snapping the visitors' seven-game winning streak overall. Roma has won five consecutive home games without giving up a goal, becoming the first Serie A team to lose to mediocre Cremonese on Tuesday. In their attempt to earn a first top-four finish in five years, they went back into fourth position in the standings with 47 points, one point behind third-placed Lazio and even with AC Milan in fifth. In the fourth minute, Dusan Vlahovic, a striker, seized onto Angel Di Maria's lofted free kick, but his initial effort was off target. Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio made a save. Paulo Dybala of Roma answered in the 27th minute with a long curling attempt, but Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus made a commendable job of parrying it away. In the 42nd minute, Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli attempted a stunning long-range drive but failed to surprise Patricio, who made a stop. There was minimal activity inside or around either of the boxes at the time. Patricio used his knee on the post to divert Adrien Rabiot's audacious header two minutes later, keeping the halftime score at 0-0. Mancini gave Roma the lead in the 53rd minute of a match that heated up after the interval by firing a strong low shot into the bottom left corner and giving Szczesny no chance.

Juventus had a chance to respond shortly before the hour mark, but Juan Cuadrado's powerful free kick struck the left post. This was the first time since May 2022 that Juventus had given up a goal from beyond the box in Serie A. In the 78th minute, Di Maria had another opportunity to score from a distance, but Patricio blocked it from going into the top corner. Di Maria's free kick struck Roma's defensive wall a short while afterwards. Just before the end of regulation, Juventus, who had several opportunities to tie the game, were down to 10 men after replacement Moise Kean kicked at Mancini after the Roma player grabbed his shirt during a scuffle and received a straight red card one minute later. A victory-saving save was made by Patricio eight minutes into stoppage. As Danilo of Juventus attempted a low shot, he dove to stop it. After six victories and a clean sheet in their last seven away Serie A games, Juventus slid one rank to eighth with 35 points, behind sixth-place Atalanta by seven points, who hold the final European slot.
