BEd Alternative: NCTE launches 4 yr Integrated Teacher Education Programme
The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) has been begun by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) at 57 teacher education institutes (TEIs) nationwide for the academic year 2023–2024, the Ministry of Education said on Saturday. This is the NCTE's flagship programme for NEP 2020, it was added. BA and BEd, BSc and BEd, and BCom and BEd are among the dual-major undergraduate degrees offered by ITEP. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will administer the National Common Entrance Exam in order to determine admission to the programme (NCET). The foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary (5+3+3+4) levels of the new school structure will all be covered in this course, which will prepare instructors for them. The concept is being tested in major colleges and institutes run by the federal and provincial governments. Any students who want to pursue teaching as a career after high school will have access to ITEP. The ministry stated in a news release that students will profit from the integrated course since they will save a year by completing the course in four years as opposed to the traditional five years needed under the current B.Ed. plan. ITP will not only disseminate cutting-edge pedagogy; it will also provide the groundwork for foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), inclusive education, and an appreciation of India and its values, ethos, art, and traditions, among other things. The training will make a significant contribution to the sector's overall regeneration, it was said.
