Burnley defeated League One Fleetwood by a slim margin to go to the FA Cup quarterfinals for the first time in 20 years. Roberts, a Wales international, scored a close-range goal in the last minute to secure the Clarets' spot in the round of eight. After Cian Hayes was dismissed for a high challenge on Josh Cullen, Fleetwood was forced to play the remainder of the game with just 10 players. In the quarterfinals, Burnley will play Manchester City, a team that manager Vincent Kompany used to coach. The current leaders in the Championship last advanced to the round of eight in 2002-03 after defeating Fulham. After overcoming Sheffield Wednesday at Highbury in the League One opener, Scott Brown's Fleetwood have won four of their past five games earlier round. They were within moments away from forcing extra time as the Clarets struggled to capitalise on their numerical advantage after Hayes' departure despite having 31 shots and 77% of the possession. But, the visiting team's resilience was ultimately broken by Roberts' late flick from a Vitinho shot, which came only a few seconds after Charlie Taylor's long-range attempt was excellently parried by Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch. After scoring in Burnley's 4-0 Championship victory over Huddersfield at the weekend, Roberts' winning goal is the first time in his career that he has scored in back-to-back games in all competitions.
