Prior to the Women's Premier League's debut season, Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday named star Indian batter and captain Harmanpreet Kaur as the leader of its women's side (WPL). She recently made history by being the first cricketer to play 150 T20 Internationals. She has supported the national team in all forms since making her debut at age 20. The national team captain, an Arjuna Awardee, owns the record for the highest-ever individual score in a knockout game in a Women's World Cup match (171*), in addition to having a strong winning record. Harmanpreet has participated in 151 T20 International matches for India, scoring 3,058 runs at an average of 28.05. In the shorter version, she has also scored one century and ten half-centuries for her nation, with the best score being 103. The Indian captain, who has taken 32 wickets in T20Is with a best bowling average of 4/23, may also give some key wickets for her team. "We are happy to have Harmanpreet as the captain of the Mumbai Indians' first-ever women's cricket squad," Nita M. Ambani stated in a statement released by the franchise. She has steered the Indian Women's Team to some of their most thrilling victories in her capacity as national captain. And I am confident that she will motivate our MI women's team to play their best cricket, exhibit pride, and bring even more honour to women with Charlotte and Jhulan's backing."We are anticipating the start of this new chapter for MI! I can't wait to watch our girls play the exciting and courageous MI style of cricket that our supporters love. More success on this thrilling path ahead to Harmanpreet and the whole MI team," added Nita.
In addition to playing alongside and serving as captain of the squad, Harman has competed against head coach Charlotte Edwards. Becoming the first Indian to play in T20 leagues abroad has helped her to promote the finest of Indian cricket to a global audience. Since the Mumbai Indians continue to be the development team for international cricket, she will now be in charge of a squad that includes some of the greatest stars in women's cricket as well as new players eager to show off their skills. The coaching staff of the Mumbai Indians includes Lydia Greenway, Jhulan Goswami, Devieka Palshikaar, and Charlotte Edwards as head coaches (field coach). Harmanpreet Kaur will serve as the team's leader. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, Pooja Vastrakar, Yastika Bhatia, Heather Graham, Isabelle Wong, Amanjot Kaur, Dhara Gujjar, Saika Ishaque, Hayley Matthews, Chloe Tryon, Humairaa Kaazi, Priyanka Bala, Sonam Yadav, Neelam Bisht, and Jintimani Kalita are among the members.
