Prime Volleyball League: Kolkata Thunderbolts confirm spot in semi finals with win over Chennai Blitz

With a victory against the Chennai Blitz on Monday at the Regional Sports Centre in Cochin, the Kolkata Thunderbolts secured a place in the semi-finals of the second season of the Premier Volleyball League with scores of 15-12, 15-9, 15-14, 15-13, and 10-15. Due to his impressive performance, Vinit Kumar was chosen player of the match. Early on, Chennai's overpasses were easily absorbed by Kolkata's defence. Vinit began launching ferocious spikes to bother the Blitz defence. Jobin Varghese, who appeared menacing, was blocked in the centre by Cody Caldwell and Jose Verdi working together. The Thunderbolts gained the upper hand as Janshad continued to place the balls on a platter for Vinit. The Blitz erased the gap as Akhin GS dominated from the centre. The Blitz erased the gap as Akhin GS dominated from the centre. Vinit, though, stood tall and courageously to block Moyo's spike and guarantee Kolkata's advantage. Cody's quick assessment preserved the Thunderbolts' crucial point. Blitz made defensive mistakes that didn't assist their case. Moyo was in charge of the play, and Chennai kept spotting little windows of opportunity to mount a comeback. Abhilash Chaudhary erupted and gave Kolkata's assaults some more flare just as Sita Rama began to threaten from the centre. The combination of Janshad and Vinit persisted in troubling Chennai's defence, while Abhilash's block assisted the Thunderbolts in containing Jobin's assaults. A few unintentional mistakes made by Kolkata were exploited by the Blitz. Yet Chennai's resistance was broken by a combo play that Cody began, and the Thunderbolts easily won to guarantee their place in the semi-finals. On Tuesday, February 28, at 1900 IST, Bengaluru Torpedoes and Calicut Heroes will face off in the fifth day of the Kochi leg of the Premier Volleyball League at the Regional Sports Centre (Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium).
