Elon Musk has recently approached AI researchers about establishing a new lab to create a substitute for OpenAI's ChatGPT, according to persons with firsthand knowledge of the project, as reported by the Information on Monday. A researcher who just departed Alphabet's DeepMind AI division, Igor Babuschkin, has reportedly been sought after by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Twitter. The study was released in response to increased interest in Silicon Valley in ChatGPT, a text-based chatbot created by OpenAI that can generate prose, poetry, or even computer code at will. In 2015, Musk and Silicon Valley investor Sam Altman co-founded OpenAI as a charity venture. Musk left the board of directors in 2018, but he still offered his opinion on the chatbot, calling it "scary excellent." According to the story, which quoted Babuschkin in an interview, Musk and Babuschkin have discussed putting together a team to do AI research, but the initiative is still in its early phases and has no clear strategy to build any particular goods. Babuschkin said that, in accordance with the story, Russia has not formally endorsed the Musk project.
