According to the government's disaster office, today's 5.6-magnitude earthquake in eastern Turkey caused several structures that had previously been damaged by a strong tremor earlier this month to fall. The Malatya province's Yesilyurt district, which was also affected by the earthquake on February 6 that killed over 44,000 people in Turkey and thousands more in neighbouring Syria, served as the epicentre of the tremor. Buildings have been destroyed as a result of the 5.6 magnitude earthquake, according to field scanning assessments conducted by the AFAD disaster agency. The statement said, "Our search and rescue teams were rapidly sent to the area and began to work." The mayor of the area, Mehmet Cinar, claimed he ordered crews to search for those buried in debris as quickly as possible.God willing, no lives will be lost, Cinar said to Haber Turk television. The criminal investigation against those responsible for the structures that were destroyed by the catastrophic earthquake that left millions without houses has been broadened by the Turkish authorities. After the earthquake on February 6, AFAD recorded around 10,000 aftershocks. According to Turkish media, 173,000 structures are thought to have been destroyed, and builders have been severely reprimanded for using inferior materials and disregarding building regulations. In the damaged areas, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared plans to repair 270,000 homes within a year.
