National Science Day: Lucknow University Opens Its Museums, Labs For Outside Students Till Feb 28

The Lucknow University (LU) has made its labs and museums accessible to students from Lucknow and surrounding areas in advance of the National Science Day on February 28. On the first day of the three-day event, schoolchildren from Lucknow and neighbouring regions took part in a variety of activities. Students from seven other institutions came to visit the Physics Department at LU, where they spoke with professors and learned about common occurrences in life science. Professor Manisha Gupta discussed the frequency of AC mains, Dr. RB Singh discussed "dispersive power," Punit Kumar discussed surface tension, Professor Onkar Prasad discussed polarisation and 3-D glasses, Professor Atul Srivastava discussed measurements using CRO. A science and ecology quiz tournament exposed the young people to the concept of a sustainable society. Such programmes are required, according to the dean, academicians, and professor Poonam Tandon, to establish a scientific perspective in society. She was grateful for the Physics Society's efforts as well. A student's early exposure to many scientific subjects will help them make a thoughtful selection when choosing a profession in higher education, according to Prof. NK Pandey, head of the physics department. The activities are centred on this year's Science Day subject, "Global Science for Global Well Being," and are coordinated by professor Leena Sinha and Dr. Jyotsna Singh of "The Physics Society."
