Today, on February 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened Shivamogga Airport in Karnataka. Over 663 acres of land, the airport was constructed for a cost of Rs. 449.22 crore. During the opening ceremony of the Shivamogga airport, PM Modi remarked that this is more than simply an airport: "It is the impetus for a new journey of the dreams of the young of this area." The foundation for the 449.22 crore Shivamogga Airport, which is being developed on 663 acres of land, was set in June 2020 by the former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa. The airport's passenger terminal building has a 300 passenger per hour capacity. According to a statement from the government, the airport would increase accessibility and connection in Shivamogga and other nearby villages in the Malnad region. The ninth domestic airport in Karnataka is this one. Domestic airports serving the state are currently found at Bengaluru, Mysuru, Ballari, Bidar, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, and Mangaluru. The two international airports in the state are at Bengaluru and Mangaluru.The airport, which is built to fly Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 type aircraft, has the second-longest runway, measuring 3,200 metres, after Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
