When Kyogo Furuhashi replicated his heroics from last season's final, Celtic defeated rivals Rangers 2-1 at Hampden Field on Sunday to win their 21st Scottish League Cup championship. Furuhashi scored twice. Under manager Ange Postecoglou, Celtic won the game handily to win a third trophy. In the 42nd minute, Furuhashi, who had scored twice in a 2-1 victory against Hibernian in the previous season's final, squandered a golden chance to give Celtic the lead by putting a header over the bar. But he soon atoned for his mistake by swaying into the six-yard box and putting a Greg Taylor score into the back of the net two minutes later. After the break, Rangers picked up the tempo, and Ryan Kent struck the post early on, but it was Celtic who scored again, with Furuhashi tapping in after a helper from Reo Hatate. Alfredo Morelos converted a cross from James Tavernier's free kick in the 64th minute to give Michael Beale's team a lead they would not relinquish despite intense pressure in the closing minutes. It much matters to me. Celtic captain Callum McGregor told the BBC, "You're challenged to win at this club time and time again. "This group is unique. Both sides of the game are open to us. Take note of this area. It is bouncing." Before kickoff, there was a fight amongst spectators that ruined the game. "Enquiries are underway following a disturbance involving a large group outside Hampden Park," a Police Scotland spokeswoman stated. The teams will now return their attention to the Scottish Premiership, where Celtic is in first place with 73 points after 26 games, followed by Rangers in second place with 64 points.
