The international airport in this city, Thiruvananthapuram, declared a complete emergency on Friday after an aircraft from Calicut to Dammam was diverted there owing to a possible hydraulic issue. According to news agency ANI, the flight was redirected to Thiruvananthapuram, where it arrived at the airport around 12:15 p.m. After departure from the Calicut International Airport in the morning, the tail section of the Air India Express IX 385, which was carrying 182 passengers, reportedly collided with the runway. According to the sources, the aircraft made a safe landing by releasing gasoline over the Arabian Sea before arriving at the airport. A complete emergency was proclaimed by airport administration. While there is a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Thiruvananthapuram Airport, the airline firm selected that airport for the landing. The aircraft's body had structural weight restrictions for landing with a full fuel load, and it had enough fuel to fly for around 6.30 hours. sources with Air India Express said ANI, "168 passengers on board Air India Express aircraft IX 385 from Calicut to Dammam were diverted because of a possible tail strike during takeoff. At 12:15 a.m., the plane made a routine, safe landing at Thiruvananthapuram, and everyone disembarked." But, this is not the first time an Air India flight has had to make an emergency landing or be diverted. An Air India flight that was headed from New York to Delhi last week was rerouted to London. On the same day, the aeroplane touched down at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at at 11:25 p.m.
