South Africa batter Theunis de Bruyn retires from international cricket
Theunis de Bruyn of South Africa, who last played for his nation in a Test match against Australia in December 2022, has declared his retirement from international cricket. The 30-year-old made the announcement in a statement issued by the Titans, his home team. The finest highlight of my career was when I had the opportunity to represent my nation at the highest level of cricket. Without the opportunity to play international cricket, the friendships I've made, the lessons I've learnt, the talents I've honed, and my development as a person would not have been possible, he added. "I've fulfilled a boyhood ambition, hung out in the same locker room as my idols, and played cricket in some of the most recognisable stadiums in the world, and I can't thank you enough,"sufficient for the chances I've received from this game. As I reflect on everything I've accomplished, it's time to bid international cricket adieu and turn my attention to the future. I'm enthusiastic for what the future has in store and look forward to pursuing more aspirations and objectives in life, he continued. "Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, and best of luck to the Proteas and Cricket South Africa for the future!" De Bruyn has scored 468 runs in 12 Test matches, including a century and a top score of 101. He has scored 37 runs in three T20Is thus far.
