Almond milk brand recalled in NSW after link to life-threatening botulism case

In New South Wales, a particular kind of almond milk is being recalled after being connected to a case of potentially fatal botulism. It was possible to buy Inside Out unsweetened almond milk at Woolworths in New South Wales with a use-by date of March 1. NSW Health said that preliminary findings supported the discovery of botulinum toxin in a milk sample. After consuming the goods and being hospitalised with severe botulism symptoms for which they are still being treated, the contamination was discovered. The NSW Food Authority is looking into the product's production to identify any potential sources of contamination. The recalled food is not safe to ingest, according to NSW Health, who encourages consumers to verify their Fridges and cabinets, discard the milk, or bring it back to the store for a refund. While food-borne botulism is exceedingly uncommon in Australia, according to Keira Glasgow of NSW Health, the toxin may be highly harmful, even fatal.Weakness, exhaustion, and vertigo are some of the early signs of food-borne botulism. Glasgow noted that impaired eyesight, a dry tongue, and trouble swallowing are frequently experienced after it. "Vomiting and nausea might also happen." The paralysis of breathing muscles can be lethal if these symptoms proceed to paralysis of the arm muscles, which can spread down the body to the trunk and legs. Anyone exhibiting symptoms is urged to consult a doctor right once. Glasgow stated that "most patients recover if recognised and treated early." A few hours to many days after ingesting the infected goods, symptoms may appear.
