Draw: High-flying Brighton held to draw at Crystal Palace
Saturday's Premier League match between high-flying Brighton and Crystal Palace ended in a 1-1 draw as James Tomkins took advantage of a disastrous mistake by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to offset Solly March's opening goal. While Palace is in 12th place and has yet to win a league game in 2023, Brighton, who have not lost this year, controlled the game but unable to capitalise on their opportunities. As a consequence, Brighton, who now have 35 points, moves up to sixth place. The game-changing goal was scored in the 63rd minute by March, who sprinted past the final defender to deftly turn in Pervis Estupinan's awkwardly-angled cross at the far post. However, Palace equalised six minutes later when Brighton goalkeeper Sanchez botched a simple catch.Tomkins headed the ball into an empty net after it bounced up well for him from a set-piece. It's disappointing since we controlled the game. We had a couple opportunities to end the game, but sadly, it wasn't meant to be. March said, "It was one of those days."Against Palace, everything always appears to be the same." They always appear to be able to identify a target. Although I have nothing against Rob, I made a mistake. The last time Brighton defeated Palace was in March 2019, while the other three meetings between the teams have all resulted in draws (1-1). Every time they play us, they give us a good game; they have fantastic players, and getting a point today was a reward for the hard effort we put in, Tomkins told the BBC. "Playing was just enjoyable,"
This year, I haven't played as frequently. It felt satisfying to participate since the adrenaline was surging. In the first half, Brighton repeatedly penetrated the defence of Palace. Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita stopped Kaoru Mitoma's angled effort, and Adam Webster's header also went wide. Soon after the halfway point, Estupinan appeared to have put the ball in the back of the net, but VAR saved Palace by ruling it out for offside, just as the Ecuadorian fullback was celebrating what he believed to be his first goal for Brighton. Alexis Mac Allister, the World Cup champion of Argentina, had two chances to give Brighton a late lead, but Guaita expertly stopped both of his shots. Initially, his close-range header went just wide of the post.
