Kyrsten Sinema Sparks Debate With Grammy-worthy Dress At State Of The Union

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who just quit the Democratic Party and faces an uphill battle to win re-election, made headlines once more on Tuesday night when she attended the State of the Union speech. Ms. Sinema was seen laughing with Sen. Mitt Romney at the event while also standing to applause a remark made by President Joe Biden. She was wearing a stunning yellow outfit. Since quitting the Democratic Party at the beginning of the year, this was Ms. Sinema's first State of the Union address.

She confused the event with the Grammy Awards earlier this week, according to numerous people who commented on the dress' social media reception.

More critical commentators compared the cartoon characters Big Bird from Sesame Street and the yellow Teletubby to the brilliant yellow appearance.

Some people compared Ms. Sinema to Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was described as Cruella de Vil in a white coat with a voluminous fur collar.

When Ms. Sinema declared she was going independent in January, some observers interpreted this as a confession that she would find it difficult to defeat Rep. Ruben Gallego in the Democratic primary the following year.

During Mr. Biden's first two years in office, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, two of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate, refused to alter the filibuster rules and obstructed a large portion of the party's and the president's agenda.

Ms. Sinema initially gained notoriety when she vehemently opposed a $15 minimum wage by raising her thumb in the air while carrying a bag on the Senate floor.

Ms. Sinema's office objected at the time, claiming that the media and other observers would not comment on the personal style and attire of a man in her position, a claim that has since been mocked by observers who see Ms. Sinema's fashion choices as performance pieces that frequently convey clear messages.

Democrats have yet to decide whether they will back Ms. Sinema—who has kept her committee assignments with the party—or Mr. Gallego in 2024. Republicans have courted Ms. Sinema, hoping she will join their party
