Following the tragic earthquake that rocked Turkey, former Chelsea and Newcastle forward Christian Atsu was extricated from the wreckage of a collapsed building, according to a tweet from the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday.The Ghanaian international plays for Hatayspor in Turkey. A club representative informed Turkish media on Monday that Atsu was believed to be inside a structure that was destroyed in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks that shook neighbouring Syria and southeast Turkey and left more than 5,000 people dead. Until the Ghana FA released an update on its official Twitter account on Tuesday, Atsu's whereabouts and condition remained unclear for the whole night. Positive news has reached us that Christian Atsu has been successfully saved. ? Despite Atsu's medical attention, the GFA gave no specifics on any injuries. Atsu, who is 31 years old, joined Hatayspor, which is headquartered in Antakya in the south, last year. The province of Kahramanmaras in southeast Turkey was the epicentre of the early-morning quake. As far away as Cairo, Egypt, people could feel it. Multiple aftershocks led to more damage. Rescue workers are scurrying to find survivors in the frigid conditions as more than 6,000 structures have fallen only in Turkey. In the Hatay region, which is home to the Hatayspor soccer club and is located just southwest of the earthquake's epicentre, authorities estimate that up to 1,500 structures were damaged.
