TOM CURRAN STEPS BACK FROM RED BALL CRICKET

To put his physical and emotional wellbeing first, Tom Curran has declared his desire to take an indefinite hiatus from red-ball cricket. The 27-year-old Curran will try to simplify his routine in an effort to keep his body in shape for the demands of white-ball cricket after suffering many ailments in previous years. The eldest Curran brother has played for Surrey in the Vitality Blast and the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred in shorter forms. He has previously played for the Sydney Sixers in the Australian Big Bash League, as well as the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Recently, Curran has been working with the Desert Vipers in the ILT20 and will shortly begin playing in the Pakistan Super League with Islamabad United. Tom has made the difficult decision to temporarily withdraw from the lengthier format of the game due to the demanding demands of such an intense schedule in order to give his body and mind the time to rest in between white ball contests. The all-rounder hasn't ruled out returning to red-ball cricket in the future; he's just decided that at the moment, it isn't on his mind. While recovering from an injury, Curran didn't play much for Surrey in 2022, although he did strike an amazing first-class century against Northampton at Wantage Road off just 85 balls. Members and supporters may not get to see, which will make them sad.Tom will be wearing white this summer, but fans should be eager to witness a player in his prime during the Vitality Blast season.

"It hasn't been easy for me the previous several years," There are certain decisions in life that I don't think you will ever be 100% confident about, and this is absolutely one of them. "I have had a lot of time, and this isn't a decision that I've taken lightly. I'm obviously not ruling out playing red-ball cricket again in the future, and I feel like I have unfinished business in this format for both Surrey and England. However, where I find myself right now, I feel like it is the best choice for my physically and for my mental health.However, I feel that focusing all of my time and attention on our Vitality Blast campaign this year is the correct thing to do until I can feel completely dedicated and secure in my body to be performing day in and day out for Surrey in the County Championship." I am aware that the news is unfortunate for everyone of Surrey and our supporters. However, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to Alec Stewart for his understanding and support of my choice. I have everything in Surrey, and that is where I call home. "I adore it, and I hope that everyone else will notice and appreciate my choice as he has," she said. "I'm excited to return to the Kia Oval in the future."

It is undoubtedly a setback to lose a player of Tom's calibre from your Country Championship team, but I have talked to him extensively about his choice and get why he made it. He has experienced injuries recently, so if doing this would help strengthen his body and keep him playing cricket more frequently in the future, I wholeheartedly back the choice. "I'm excited to see him return in May for our own T20 season."
