According to Santi Aouna, Southampton and Genk are nearly at an agreement over the transfer of striker Paul Onuachu (28). The leading scorer in the Belgian Jupiler League at the time, Paul Onuachu of Genk, was reportedly being pursued by Southampton and Everton. The attacker, 28, had stated his ambition to compete in the Premier League. Onuachu, who is 6 feet 7 inches tall, had already tallied 16 goals in 19 games with Genk that year. He has scored 85 goals and ten assists in 134 appearances across all competitions since joining Genk in 2019 from Danish club Midtjylland, and he was under contract with the Belgian squad until 2024. As both teams searched for additional attackers to direct Everton and Southampton allegedly submitted offers to their Belgian rivals for the acquisition of Onuachu, keeping them out of the relegation zone. The estimated value of the offers ranged from €15 to €20 million. During the January transfer window, Genk, who were dominating the Belgian Junior League at the time, were reluctant to part with their most valued player, but this looks to have changed later in the window.
