Brandon Moreno Defeats Deiveson Figueiredo In Fourth Meeting

Deiveson Figueiredo is defeated by Brandon Moreno in the fourth round. On Saturday, Brandon Moreno defeated Deiveson Figueiredo in their fourth meeting in a period of 25 months to end the first tetralogy in UFC history. Before the fourth round began, a cageside doctor stopped the flyweight title battle because Figueiredo's right eye had closed due to swelling brought on by a left hook from Moreno. The main event of UFC 283, held in Rio de Janeiro's Jeunesse Arena, included the unification of the 125-pound titles. The conclusion was disappointing in that such a significant fight had to be halted because of an injury, but it was evident that Moreno's legal blow had caused the damage.Following Moreno's left hook, Figueiredo (21-3-1) instantly protested what he saw by reaching for the right eye.As soon as Moreno connected with the left hook, Figueiredo (21-3-1) moved toward the right eye to protest what he believed to be an eye poke. The Brazilian suffered terrible damage as a result of the strike. Shortly after the shot, he collapsed to the ground and remained there for the remainder of the round, defending himself. The eye was severely bloodied and swollen. At the time of the break, Moreno (21-6-2) was in the lead on the scorecards of all three judges: 29-28, 29-28, and 29-27. He had 6:52 of control time compared to just 35 seconds for Figueiredo, and he outlanded Figueiredo 85 to 24 in terms of total strikes.

The victory brings to an end the inaugural UFC tetralogy. In their first encounter, Moreno defeated Figueiredo to a draw in December 2020 despite being a huge underdog. Prior to losing a tight decision in the third bout in January of last year, Moreno had won the rematch in June of 2021.Figueiredo, 35, declared his intention to move up to the 135-pound category immediately after the defeat.Although Figueiredo made Moreno defend risky submission attempts in the first and second rounds, Moreno varied up his offensive assaults nicely. In the first few seconds of the bout, Figueiredo grabbed him in a guillotine, and he was trapped in the same position again in the second. At the conclusion of the first round, he also looked for a heel hook. But in enemy territory, Moreno maintained his calm and began to find his range with left hooks to the body and head. Since Max Holloway's victory over Brian Ortega for the featherweight championship in 2018, the doctor's stoppage result was the first time that has occurred in a UFC title match.
