Rishi Sunak defense for PM Modi grabs worldwide attention
Rishi Sunak's defence of PM Modi garners attention on a global scale. What was mentioned in regards to the divisive BBC documentary? Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs, claimed that the documentary is a "propaganda work" during a weekly briefing in New Delhi. The House of Commons defence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has garnered international notice. Imran Hussain, a member of parliament from Pakistan, was silenced by Sunak, who also publicly criticised the Indian Prime Minister's "characterization" of the Gujarat riots in 2022. Hussain was bringing attention to assertions made in the BBC documentary that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, or FCDO, was aware of the "extent of Narendra Modi's role" in the riots. Sunak answered and said that the UK government's attitude has remained unchanged and is clear as day. We don't condone persecution in any form, of course, he added. As for the "characterization that the honourable gentleman has been put forth to," Sunak continued, "I'm not sure whether I agree with it." The documentary is a "propaganda work" that was created to showcase a "discredited narrative," according to India's Ministry of Affair Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, who spoke out strongly on the issue during a weekly briefing in New Delhi, according to The Indian Express. Bagchi continued by saying that the documentary raises concerns about its motivations. Jack Straw, the UK Secretary, was also criticised by Bagchi for his comments in the documentary. "It seems like he's referring to a UK report from within. How do I get entry to that? It's a report from 20 years ago. Why would we act immediately? How can people give it so much credibility just because Jack says it? Bagchi declared. Prime Minister Narendra Modi served as the chief minister of Gujarat in 2002, the year when racial unrest broke out there.
