After being forced to close for more than two hours owing to heavy snow, Manchester Airport has officially resumed operations. The health and safety of the passengers will "always be our first concern," it stated.According to the Met Office, wintry showers are predicted to cause "additional disruption from ice and snow" in Manchester until 12:00 GMT.
For flight information, passengers have been encouraged to call their airline. At 06:20 GMT, the runways were closed; they reopened at 08:43 GMT."Just another hour to wait on the plane going nowhere," tweeted one traveller, Dec.
There had been "some scattered snow showers this morning, creating a coating of snow in parts," according to BBC weather presenter Simon King.
At Manchester Airport, he said, "a stronger snow shower swept over southern sections of Greater Manchester in particular, producing a decent blanket."
"While the snow has gone, Greater Manchester may get a few additional wintry showers during the morning."
Once snow depths surpass 0.1 inches, according to an airport spokesman, runways and taxiways must be cleaned (3 mm).
Although most of the impacted regions had been cleaned, further snowfall had prevented the runways from operating.
Nathan Booth said on Twitter that he had spent the previous hour "seated on an aircraft diverted to Birmingham [because] of a blowing blizzard."
Teddy Vee, though, claimed he felt bad for the airport staff.
Try removing 294,000 square metres of snow in addition to the taxiways and stands, he said.
It's not the same as sweeping your driveway, In preparation, snow crews have been present since Monday.
