Three-time champions Netherlands trounced Malaysia 4-0 in Pool C matches of the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup here on Saturday, while New Zealand defeated Chile 3-1
Sam Hiha scored two field goals in the first two quarters of the first game of the day (at the 11th and 18th minutes), while Sam Lane scored the first goal for the Black Sticks in the ninth minute with another field goal.
Ignacio Contardo scored the lone goal for Chile in the 49th minute.
The world No. 3 Netherlands, who won the competition in 1973, 1990, and 1998, took the lead in the other Pool C match thanks to a field goal by Thijs van Dam in the 19th minute. Four minutes later, Jip Janssen converted a penalty shot to extend the advantage.
A minute into the fourth and final quarter, Teun Beins (46th) made it 3-0 for the Netherlands by converting a penalty corner, and Jorrit Croon scored the game's last goal a minute before the final buzzer.
The Dutch, who also have three points from the victory, are in first place in Pool C because they have a greater goal differential than New Zealand.
The Netherlands and New Zealand will square off against each other in their subsequent pool encounter on Monday, and Malaysia will face On the same day, Chile.
The current world champions Belgium will play Korea later on in the day, and Germany, ranked fourth in the world, will play Japan in Pool B matches in Bhubaneswar.
