Wesley Reddi Meet Kansas's first Indian-American senator.
Since 2013, Usha Reddi has been a member of the Manhattan City Commission and has held two mayoralty positions.
According to reports in the media on Friday, Usha Reddi, a member of the Indian American Democratic Party, was sworn in as Kansas' state senator for District 22.
Longtime Manhattan Senator Tom Hawk, who last month announced his retirement from the Legislature, was replaced by Reddi, a well-known community leader,
Senator Hawk was thanked by Reddi for his diligent service and for "sincere affection for the community and good ties he developed along the way." She replied, "I'm sure I'll be reaching out to Senator Tom Hawk a lot. He's an incredible leader. Since 2013, Reddi has been a member of the Manhattan City Commission and has held the office of mayor twice.
She worked as a teacher in the past at the Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools, where she also held the position of chapter president of the National Education Association for a while.
She graduated from Kansas State University with a master's degree in educational leadership and holds bachelor's degrees in psychology and elementary education.
Senator Hawk's tenure will be finished by Reddi by the time it ends in 2025. The upcoming week will see Reddi's committee assignments disclosed.

"This evening has been quite thrilling." Reddi declared, "I'm honoured to serve Senate District 22."days. When Reddi was eight years old, her family emigrated from India to the United States.
