To compete with Sprite, Pepsi discontinues Sierra Mist and introduces Starry.
On Wednesday, Pepsi introduced Starry, a new lemon-lime drink, to replace Sierra Mist and take on Sprite from Coca-Cola.
The new beverage features a zero-sugar option and is caffeine-free. As the drink made its social media debut on Wednesday, some have already arrived on shop shelves. The beverage boasts "higher citrus flavours that are true to fruit and more aromatic, which give a more balanced, cleaner, sharper finish than Sierra Mist," according to a PepsiCo spokesperson who described it.
Greg Lyons, Chief marketing Officer in Beverages North America, stated, "At PepsiCo, we are hyper-focused on consumer-centric innovation, and we know there's a significant demand for lemon lime-flavored soda, with the category continuing to accelerate. Customers demand an alternative option because there is just one product that dominates the market. "STARRY is vibrant, upbeat, and grounded in fun and culture."
After the Federal Trade Commission opened a preliminary inquiry into whether PepsiCo had broken a statute governing pricing tactics, this took place. In comparison to the previous year, the corporation increased prices by an average of 17%. Together, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo control 72% of the beverage market.PepsiCo apparently plans to eliminate hundreds of positions "to streamline the organisation so we can function more effectively" as the company's pricing is under investigation. The corporation had 309,000 employees worldwide as of December 2021, with about 129,000 of them working in the US.
