LeBron James still overall leader in NBA All Star Game votes

In terms of voting for the NBA All-Star Game, LeBron James remains in the lead.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is well on his way to being passed by LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers on more than just the NBA's lifetime scoring chart.James continues to have the most votes overall for the game on February 19 in Salt Lake City, according to the NBA, which means he will likely be an All-Star for the 19th time.

In NBA history, only Abdul-Jabbar has appeared in 19 All-Star games. James and Kobe Bryant have both been selected 18 times, and as of Thursday, James was 423 points away from overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA's all-time leading scorer.By Thursday, James had 4,825,229 votes. This puts him in position to lead for the sixth consecutive season and face Kevin Durant three times in a row.

With 4,509,238 votes as of Thursday, Brooklyn Nets player Kevin Durant is the top vote-getter in the Eastern Conference. Durant is projected to miss around a month after spraining a knee ligament earlier this week.

The top three frontcourt players and top two guards from each conference will be selected as starters. The top vote-getters from each conference will lead their respective teams and serve as captains.James is the best frontcourt player in the Western Conference. Nikola Jokic of Denver stayed in second (3,441,893), and Anthony Davis of the Lakers remained in third (2,950,563).

Giannis Antetokounmpo (4,467,306) of Milwaukee is barely ahead of Durant in the East among frontcourt players. Although this week saw Boston's Jayson Tatum surpass Philadelphia's Joel Embiid for third place, Tatum received 3,281,124 votes while Embiid received 3,248,733.

Stephen Curry of Golden State is the top-voted guard overall with 3,901,808 votes. With 3,649,647 votes, Dallas' Luka Doncic remained the No. 2 guard in the West behind Curry. The top two East guard vote-getters remained the same: Kyrie Irving of Brooklyn, who has 3,024,833 votes, and Donovan Mitchell of Cleveland, who has 2,725,558.The balloting for the starters is split into three categories: media votes account for 25%; fan votes account for 50%; and NBA players' ballots account for the remaining 25%.

James has served as captain in each of the last five All-Star Games, going 5-0. In 2021 and 2022, his squad defeated teams selected by Durant, in 2019 and 2020, by Antetokounmpo, and in 2018, by Curry.Due to his injury, Durant did not participate in the 2021 or 2022 games.Election day is January 21. On January 26, the captains and the starters will be revealed. NBA coaches will reveal the reserves on February 2. The captains of the All-Star teams will then draught their squads, most likely in the second week of February.
