A Lucky Friday the 13th warmest day in January 2023

Fortunately, January 2023's 13th hottest day fell on a Friday.

It's now Friday the thirteenth! Oh no! In January 2023, this superstitious day could turn out to be the hottest. A large southerly flow will be produced throughout the West and Montana due to a large storm in the eastern Pacific. For much of Montana, this will cause temperatures to rise into the 40s and 50s. It could stay in the 30s in the northeast corner, but that's far warmer than previous temperatures. A wave of light snow, light rain, and light freezing rain might appear on the radar again late Friday into early Saturday. In the past week, there have been two different freezing rain episodes in parts of north-central Montana.

another instance of light icing. Although that weak system will go by Saturday afternoon, the morning hours may be treacherous. The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is this weekend, and the calm weather will begin to shift a little. After the system on Saturday, lower temperatures and more clouds will arrive on Sunday. The 30s will be the highs. On Monday, the state will see yet another wave of low pressure. A large amount of snow is unlikely, however light snow or flurries might be widespread. With highs in the 20s and 30s, up to 1-2" of snow is likely. Late next week, another front with snow showers is probable, and the following weekend could see further snowfall. End of January seems more like January.
