Real Madrid vs Valencia score result as champions Spanish Supercopa final

Valencia scores against Real Madrid, and the winners go to the Spanish Supercopa final on penalties.

Real Madrid defeated Valencia on penalties in the inaugural semifinal of the competition, which was contested in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and allowed Real Madrid to advance to the 2023 Spanish Super Cup final.

When Los Merengues take on the winner of Thursday's semifinal between Barcelona and Real Betis, they will now have the opportunity to capture their second trophy of the 2022–23 campaign. The UEFA Super Cup was already won by Real Madrid in August.

Jose Gaya, the captain of Valencia, made a feeble attempt to finish the shootout, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved him. Real was faultless in the shootout. However, over a lacklustre 90 minutes, the defending La Liga winners were far from it.

Real Madrid were ineffective in buildup play and barely threatened, with the exception of solitary bursts from Vinicius Jr. and a few long-range efforts. Giorgi Mamadarshvili, the goalie for Valencia, was capable when they did, but he was unable to stop any of their penalties in the shootout.

Karim Benzema's first-half penalty kick gave Real Madrid the advantage towards the end of regulation after the current Ballon d'Or winner was hauled down in the box by Valencia. However, Valencia answered only 30 seconds into the second half with a goal from Samuel Lino at the far post on a curling Toni Lato cross.

Real Madrid couldn't manage much outside of a late surge to end the game, but injuries certainly contributed to their stifled performance. Aurelien Tchouameni and David Alaba, two starters, were already absent, while Lucas Vazquez, Eduardo Camavinga, and Eder Militao all sustained injuries during the game for Madrid (ankle). Their ability to suit up on Sunday will be crucial for a Real Madrid team that is undoubtedly not at its best.
