Manchester United's late Rashford double secures a semifinal berth in this match between Charlton and Manchester United.

For Manchester United to defeat League One Charlton Athletic 3-0 in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals, a late double from Marcus Rashford, who came on as a substitute, was necessary.

In the 21st minute, Antony scored his fifth goal of the year with a now-familiar curling finish, but United were unable to overcome a group that was 52 places lower in the English football league.

Ashley Maynard-Brewer, the goalkeeper for Dean Holden's team, made a few excellent saves, but Charlton's strikers made it difficult for Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez to play together for the first time since the World Cup.

Rashford had the final say, capitalising on excellent assists from fellow replacements Facundo Pellistri and Casemiro to secure a semi-final spot, as is frequently the case at the present.

Erik ten Hag made eight changes to the United team that defeated Everton in the FA Cup third round, including giving 17-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo his professional debut.

Another young player drew everyone's attention immediately away. Alejandro Garnacho caused right-back Sean Clare of Charlton a lot of trouble by cutting in from the left twice to go close.

The opening goal for United came from the other flank as Antony, who also scored the game-winning goal against Everton, gathered Fred's ball and finished lavishly.

After the score, Charlton effectively withstood a storm and began the second half on the offensive. Scott Fraser, who had scored in each of the Addicks' last two contests, missed the target from the edge of the box and had a better chance.

The better opportunities continued to go to United despite their increased use of the counterattack, as Maynard-Brewer made outstanding stops to deny Garnacho and Christian Eriksen.

To resolve the matter, the hosts required Rashford's improved incisiveness, and he clipped home after a sharp pass from Pellistri before being touched

Highlights and updates from the quarterfinal matchup between Manchester United and Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup:

Final score: Charlton Athletic 3-0 Manchester United:

The final score of 3-0 does not accurately reflect the game's outcome because Charlton fought hard to win. As the game neared its last minute, Antony's first-half goal stood as the difference between the teams, but Rashford kept up his unstoppable hot streak to secure a semifinal spot. In that round of the competition in 2020 and 2021, Manchester City defeated United both times. On Wednesday, their neighbours depart for Southampton.

90th minute plus four seconds: GO! Marcus Rashford, please.

Rashford takes a touch before blasting the bouncing ball into the goal after Casemiro lifts a pass over the worn-out Charlton defence.

90+1: Charlton continues to push forward. Maguire blocks a shot from Stockley, and handball appeals are correctly dismissed.

90th minute: Go, go, go! Marcus Rashford, please.

One more? Rashford gets his sixth goal in as many games to help United win. Ten Hag's team is moving on to the semifinals thanks to Pellistri, who came up with a tiny gem of a cameo. There will be an extra four minutes.

89th minute, Martinez and Pellistri work together to avert United's most recent worrying moment as Leaburn just cannot control the ball in the United area.

87th minute, Pellistri enters the game and sets up McTominay for a turn-around shot, but Maynard-Brewer maintains that the shot was only partially blocked.

84th minute, Garnacho is back to dancing his feet. Once more, he connects with Eriksen, and Maynard-Brewer dives to his left to make an incredible save. He must have realised it after the fact. The Uruguayan Pellistri, who will make his long-awaited debut for United, replaces Elanga as the team's final substitution.

83rd minute:United has the ball back in the Charlton goal in the , but Martinez is offside.

82nd minute,:Henry replaces Rak-Sakyi and Stockley replaces Sessegnon to give Charlton's offence a little more presence.

81st minute: The tenacious Garnacho drives into the goal as United try to end the game. The tenacious Garnacho drives into the area once more as United tries to end the game. Ness makes an outstanding block to divert Eriksen's effort behind after he cuts the ball back to him on the edge of the six-yard box.

79th minute: Maguire makes a careless move that costs United the ball, makes them susceptible to a breakaway, and results in a foul on Sessegnon that results in a booking.

78th minute: Heaton makes another uncomplicated claim from a left-wing cross in the , but Charlton is still in control of the play. The away supporters laugh, "Premier League, you're having a joke!"

77th minute:Fraser attempts to take it in the , but it's a weak effort, and Heaton easily catches. That might be Charlton's final opportunity.

76th second: Okay, okay. Fraser charges forward on a surging Charlton break, but Malacia slashes through his back, giving Charlton a fantastic free kick opportunity. Maynard-Brewer, who nearly handled the ball outside of his area, launched that counterattack.

73rd minute, Heaton, who hasn't had much to do in the United goal tonight,           makes a strong save on a Leaburn-pressured left-wing cross from Sessegnon.

71st minute, Garnacho demonstrates his ability to link plays well by finding an underlapping Eriksen. The playmaker for Denmark attempts to reach the six-yard box, but no one is present to score.

70th minute: Holden will be happy that his team is still within striking distance with 20 minutes left to play. Keep in mind that if the score is tied after 90 minutes, penalties will be used. Everything is up for grabs if Charlton can score an equaliser.

66th minute: Garnacho once again cuts inside and creates some havoc, but Maynard-Brewer makes a fantastic stop to keep Charlton in the game.

61st minute, Holden switches Blackett-Taylor, who had a standout performance, for O'Connell from his bench.

60 minutes, remaining, United makes three substitutions. Mainoo, Fred, and   Antony are being replaced by Casemiro, Eriksen, and Rashford. Ten Hag is not   one to play around.

57th minute, Taylor is ruled to have fouled Martinez after Blackett-Taylor floats up a cross to the far post.

55th minute: From a little further out, Antony lines up another of his party pieces. On this occasion, it is broad.

Fred plays Mainoo into the box in the 54th minute. The child tries an unplanned backheel to Elanga, but Charlton blocks it.

49th minute: Wan-first-time Bissaka's cross finds Elanga with the ball in the net, but he is blatantly offside. The referee's assistant was perfectly fine being left to his own devices on that particular instance because there is no VAR in this competition until the quarterfinals.

46th minute: Play resumes, and Charlton creates the first opportunity of the second half. Leaburn does a good job moving the ball to Morgan, who passes it to Fraser, who shoots from the edge of the box. The midfielder, who has scored in both of his last two games, definitely ought to have performed better.

Manchester United leads Charlton Athletic 1-0 at the break.

Charlton camped in or around their own penalty area for the entirety of stoppage time at halftime. However, they stop any more harm. Although Antony's magnificent first goal gave United a 1-0 lead, the Addicks are still playing in an exciting cup match.

Wan-Bissaka is booed loudly by the Charlton supporters in the 45th minute because he formerly played for Crystal Palace. That is exquisitely petty. I'm glad to hear that. Three minutes of stoppage time will be allowed.

43rd minute, Garnacho creates some space on the outside of Clare, who had his hands full in the first half with the United winger. The shot that results sails over.

37th minute: Morgan blasts it over the near side of the wall. Although it was well struck, that usually curled wide.

36th minute:Charlton now has a wonderful free kick  36th minute.

Mainoo is called for a foul by Rak-Sakyi. Can League One team win this one?

35th second, Fred scores a goal!

What a fantastic free kick! There, Maynard Brewer was grabbing for some fresh air. What a shame for the Brazilian midfielder.

33rd minute: After Antony's shot is blocked, United press forward until Morgan fouls Fred a short distance from the goal. Dalot requires care before the free kick is taken. The night will come to an end after that. Entering the fight is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

31st minute: More creative effort by Blackett-Taylor , but Dalot remains focused, and United is given a goal kick despite Charlton's objections.

30th minute: Blackett-Taylor tries to start a Charlton attack in the 30th minute. Martinez foresees his search for Fraser and boots out for a throw-in as he seeks for Fraser.

27th minute: For Charlton, halftime is quickly starting to seem far away. Garnacho continues to have success down the left, but because McTominay doesn't continue running, his cutback is to no one in particular.

24th minute, Antony attacks a pass to the far post as United try to consolidate their lead. He and Sessegnon had a verbal altercation, and both athletes will require some medical attention. It appears like they will be fine.

12 minute:Do you really require a description from me? The Brazil winger took possession of the ball in the right corner of the box, moved it to his deadly left foot, and curled a beautiful finish into the far corner. The signature content from the fifth season.

15th minute: Heaton struck Clare at the corner, knocking her to the ground and requiring medical attention. Although the seasoned goalie meant no harm, it seems strange that the referee first permitted play to continue. Manager Dean Holden of Charlton is not pleased.

14th minute: This cup tie is entertaining.

Incoming is Charlton. Blackett-Taylor visits Dalot both inside and outside. Maguire clears his cross from behind him, and Charlton is on the corner. Before United again, Dobson fires a shot that is blocked by Heaton.

12th minute, Fred scores again after unleashing a powerful strike that Innes heroically parries. That knocked the big Charlton defender off his feet. He is standing up again and prepared to defend the corner.

10 minute, Fred outruns the Charlton defence. McTominay attempts to identify him, but the pass is notably overhit. There was a lot of rain before the game, so perhaps he was making an adjustment for that. Scott, lower the electricity.

9th minute: Charlton is having a lot of trouble because of that ball out to the left that Maguire passed to Garnacho. Another attempt is made by the young player from Argentina, but it misses wide of the near post.

8th minute, Garnacho, who enters from the left, performs more twinkle-toed wizardry.

7th minute, United is determined not to be intimidated by any overt Charlton strategies. Under Antony's pressure, Maguire sends a high ball that Inniss is unable to catch.

5th minute, the game is frantic and open, with Charlton looking to attack whenever they can. Although the away supporters are having a blast, it might be in the team's best interest to calm things down a bit. The opening corner of the game is taken by United; it is played to the edge of the box, but Malacia is in the wrong place.

2nd minute: As Garnacho causes mayhem down the left, United has the first real opportunity. He made his cutback after Antony, who had undoubtedly outperformed Dalot. The international player for Portugal blasted over with his left foot from the box.

Blackett-Taylor bursts into the box in the first minute as Charlton attempts to get out in front before United is able to clear.

3rd minutes :before kickoff, the teams enter the field as Old Trafford is filled with the familiar tones of the Stone Roses' This is the One. What a time for Kobbie Mainoo, a young person.

40 minutes: before the game: Dean Holden, the manager of Charlton, has long been a Manchester United season ticket holder. At Old Trafford, his father and uncle worked as stewards. According to the former Bolton defender, who just informed BBC Radio 5 Live that relatives and friends have asked him for 31 tickets to tonight's game, it promises to be a fantastic and emotional evening.

58 minutes :before the game: And the Charlton XI looks like this. The teams have arrived one hour before the game. In goal for United, Lisandro Martinez returns following his World Cup exploits, and Kobbie Mainoo makes his debut. Tom Heaton beats out new signing Jack Butland.

1 hour and 10 minutes: Charlton hopes to achieve a genuinely historic victory when the game begins in. The South Londoners last advanced to a significant semifinal by winning the FA Cup in 1947. They were a regular in the Premier League more recently, over the first ten years of this century, but success at Old Trafford proved elusive. The last time they triumphed on United's turf was in 1986, and before that, you have toExamples of Addicks victories in front of the Stretford End may be found all the way back in the 1930s.

1hour and 20 minutes:  Erik ten Hag is getting closer to winning a trophy in his first season at Old Trafford thanks to United's performance in this competition with one left till kickoff. In the post-Alex Ferguson era, that hasn't always been the ideal way to evaluate managers. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer notably lost several games in the quarterfinals before falling to Villarreal in a drawn-out penalty shootout in the 2021 Europa League final, but overall, his time was seen favourably compared to that of Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, who won three titles between them.
