Newcastle 2-0 Leicester City: Toon Move Closer To Ending 54-year Major Trophy Drought In Carabao Cup

Newcastle moves closer to ending its 54-year major trophy drought in the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.

Using his debut goal for the team, local boy Dan Burn sends Newcastle on their trip to the semifinals. Joelinton extended the lead before Jamie Vardy mysteriously missed from close range.

Newcastle's 2-0 Carabao Cup quarterfinal victory over Leicester brought them one step closer to ending a 54-year major trophy drought.

Newcastle dominated in front of a boisterous St James' Park crowd, but it took until Dan Burn scored his first club goal in the 60th minute to get the game started.

Twelve minutes later, Joelinton escaped from behind down the left and picked out the back of the net to double that advantage.the exact corner Burn took to secure the victory.

Without the still-injured James Maddison, Leicester provided little for the majority of the game. The Foxes did generate a few late opportunities, but substitute Jamie Vardy squandered the best one by sidefooting over with the goal gaping from seven yards out.

For Newcastle, the victory ends a 47-year streak of missing the League Cup semifinals as they attempt to capture their first significant prize since 1969. On Wednesday night, the draw will determine their semi-final opponents; Sky Sports will broadcast the draw live.

It has been much too long since Newcastle won a trophy, according to manager Eddie Howe. No one who has tried should take that as a criticism, but we need to move the processes along quickly.

We are now moving on to the semifinals. That's easier said than done. It's one thing to advance to the semifinals, but you really want to compete in the final and have that experience. Regardless of who we get, we are aware that we are in for a major test and are just grateful to be there.

Newcastle's boisterous home crowd demanded a quick start, and they might have taken the lead after only 45 seconds had Sean Longstaff not missed a simple opportunity at the back post.

After Joe Willock and Joelinton had made a strong connection down the left, the great Bruno Guimaraes missed the goal, then Longstaff lost another excellent opportunity when Danny Ward cleared his shot.

Patson Daka's decision to cross the ball rather than shoot from the angle proved to be a poor one as Leicester managed to end the half at 0-0 despite Newcastle's domination.

Within seconds of the game's restart, Joelinton's low shot rebounded off the post as the match remained lopsided. Burn then misjudged Kieren Trippier's free-kick by heading it over, but his opportunity would arrive.

The full-back, a former season-ticket holder for Newcastle, charged into the penalty area from the left and blasted across Ward and inside the right post to excite the home crowd.

Soon after, Joelinton intercepted a pass from Miguel Almiron and eliminated Marc Albrighton from the game, causing the roof of the stadium to collapse once more. Like Burn, the Brazilian made a beautiful finish in the distant corner.

With Vardy on the field, Leicester seemed to get more energised after falling behind 2-0. However, he spurned two wonderful chances to cut the deficit in half, first missing an open goal from seven yards out and then shooting wide from the angle.

Newcastle had the night. And notice how the home crowd rejoiced.

Bruno Guimares won player of the game:

Andy Hinchcliffe, a co-commentator for said: "This Newcastle player personified the effort. An ideal mix of quality and aggressiveness."

Guimares was the impetus. He was seen all throughout. putting out Leicester's fires when they attempted a counterattack and benefiting from strong build-up play from his colleagues, even though his finishing lacked a little. That was the only drawback for a player who, like his club, is on the rise.

Howe: We just keep going.

Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, speaking to;

"It had a similar vibe to the games against Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday. Despite numerous opportunities, we failed to seize them. It's crucial to maintain patience, refrain from overanalyzing situations, and refrain from acting extravagantly. I thought we had everything under control. The goals arrived at a perfect time. You always look for something to do.

Leicester is a threat throughout transitions, especially after Vardy enters the game. The defenders had excellent focus. At 0-0, we had them in check.

"Our team's trademark is that they never give up," Our team's athletic prowess is really strong. Along with that, our players have the mentality to comprehend the necessity of working and running. We kept trying to push through to the conclusion.

"You have to relish success." It doesn't always happen. You put a lot of effort into creating the moments in the locker room, and you want the players to cherish them.

"Newcastle deserved to win," said Rodgers.

Leicester City's manager, Brendan Rodgers, said to,

Congratulations to Newcastle on making it to the semifinals, first and foremost. They deserved to win the game, in my opinion. We lacked excellence. We were too careless with the ball and required too many touches. We don't argue about anything. including two easy goals. These are areas where we can improve.

We had opportunities. We made good progress in the first half. We had good chances in the second half. Everyone becomes more tense if Jamie Vardy makes it 2-1 in the final 15 minutes of play. "We weren't quite able to achieve the goal to put them under strain."

On Super Sunday at 2 p.m., Newcastle will face Fulham at St. James' Park in their return to Premier League action. The following day, January 21, at 5.30 p.m., Eddie Howe's team travels to Crystal Palace, again live on Sports.

The Premier League matchups for Leicester are against Nottingham Forest on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Brighton at home on January 21 at the same time.
