Pakistan has won the Men's Hockey World Cup four times and placed second twice, making them the most successful team in the competition's history.
They've additionally placed fourth once. Prior to winning back-to-back championships in Buenos Aires in 1978 and Mumbai in 1982, Pakistan won the inaugural World Cup in Barcelona in 1971.
They won their final match in Sydney in 1994. In Amstelveen, 1973, India eliminated Pakistan in the semifinals, preventing them from defending their first-place win.
In 1975, Pakistan's efforts to win a second World Cup similarly failed, falling to their bitter enemies, this time in the championship game. They eventually defeated West Germany in 1982 and the Netherlands in 1978, though, to become the first team to successfully defend their World Cup title. They are still only one of three teams to have done so; at the turn of the century, Germany and Australia added their names to the list.Since winning their final Asian Games gold in 2010
Pakistan has experienced a rather steady slide that has only gotten worse. Pakistan missed out on World Cup qualification in 2014 for the first time ever. In spite of making it to the tournament in 2018, they were eliminated in the group stage after failing to win a single game. They have not achieved World Cup qualification for 2023.
