BCCI unlikely to consider Rohit, Kohli for T20s

Rohit and Kohli are unlikely to be considered by the BCCI for T20 international matches.

Although the pair is known to have made themselves available, it is also known that they will be encouraged to reconsider their T20 future.

In the coming days, the Indian Cricket Board and the team management are set to have a meeting with captain Rohit Sharma and vice captain Virat Kohli to discuss their futures in T20Is. According to reports, the pair has declared themselves open for selection in the format, but it has been heard that they will be convinced to reevaluate their T20 future. When Chetan Sharma's revamped selection panel meets in the coming days, the subject will also be up for debate.

For the series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, the selectors have chosen a young team captained by Hardik Pandya. The BCCI has not yet named Pandya as a full-time leader in the format, and Rohit is still the all-format skipper despite the fact that he has offered enough indications that he will guide the side in the long term.

Given that the next T20 World Cup won't be until 2024, the BCCI decided to give young people opportunities. Additionally, it intended to control the senior players' workload ahead of the 50-over World Cup in October and November because the selectors were told to field a new bunch of players.

Rohit stated that he has not given up on playing T20s for the national side prior to the first ODI match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. "This World Cup year is currently known to be a 50-over event. Some of the guys can't play all formats, unfortunately. The schedule shows that the games are immediately following one another. Therefore, we made the decision to consider some players' workloads, ensure that they get appropriate rest, and manage them. I undoubtedly fit that description. This year, we only have six T20 games. I haven't, however, decided to abandon the format."

The BCCI, though, is not likely to incorporate the pair into its T20 plans. It is believed that the board wants a completely different team for the T20s and likes players who can easily adapt to the format, which necessitates that batters start out on the attack. India adopted a conservative strategy in succeeding T20 World Cups because their top order struggled to complete the majority of the powerplay overs. The fact that Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli were among the top three players also had a significant role in this, as they are not the quickest to get going.

India is seeking to modify that element and implement a more daring approach with the next T20 World Cup in mind.aiming to improve that element and implement an earlier, more audacious approach. In the run-up to the T20 World Cup, India attempted this audacious, aggressive strategy, but abandoned it in Australia. Pandya has previously stated that a daring strategy should be used, thus it's critical that the selectors choose the correct individuals.

India boasts such batters in Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Rahul Tripathi, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, and Shubman Gill. which is why in the T20Is, the BCCI, team management, and selectors are ready to replace Rohit and Kohli.
