Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to his mother Heeraben Modi today in Ahmedabad, where she has been receiving treatment since last night. He arrived from Delhi about 4 p.m., and after spending almost an hour with his mother, he left the hospital just before 5.30.
Heeraben Modi, who turned 99 in June of this year, was described as having a stable condition in a statement from the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center. Other details have not been disclosed by the hospital.
Darshanaben Vaghela and Kaushik Jain, two MLAs for the BJP in Gujarat, have arrived at the medical facility.
The Prime Minister, who has frequently discussed his relationship with his mother, recently paid her a visit while he was in Gujarat for the just concluded state elections. Social media users then shared pictures of the prime minister conversing and sipping tea with Heeraben Modi.
On her 99th birthday, the Prime Minister had also paid her a visit.
The prime minister also posted an emotional blog post titled "Mother" to commemorate her 100th entry.
The Prime Minister's brother Prahlad Modi and several family members were hurt in an automobile accident in Mysuru, Karnataka, just before the news of Heeraben Modi's hospitalisation broke.
The mother of Prime Minister Modi received condolences from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. "A mother and son's love is unending and irreplaceable," You have my love and support, Modi ji, during this trying period. To his primary political challenger, Mr. Gandhi wrote in Hindi, "I wish your mother recovers swiftly."
