Dense Fog, Cold Wave To Continue Over North India

Over north India, a cold wave and dense fog are still present.

The third day in a row this week, a chilling cold wave has gripped the northern Indian states. This morning, several states saw severe to very dense fog, which reduced visibility to sub-zero levels in certain areas. Low visibility of about 50 metres continues to cause problems for train and flight operations. The length, severity, and extent of the fog, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), have all drastically decreased today as expected. According to the IMD statement,

The duration, intensity, and areas covered by the morning fog in north India, especially over NCR Delhi, have all drastically decreased.

According to IMD, there was also rainfall and thunderstorm activity yesterday in numerous locations across southern India and some northeastern states.
Rajasthan sweats in the bitter cold; Delhi won't get any relief soon;

Here are the top five updates from today:

1.In the upcoming four to five days, severe fog will continue to cover isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan. Throughout the following two days, similar circumstances will be seen over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

2. Tuesday's intense fog caused over 100 planes to be delayed and two to be diverted at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Yesterday at Chandigarh's Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, approximately 15 planes were delayed until 7 p.m.
to hazy circumstances.

3. Visibility was observed at below-freezing temperatures in Bhatinda, Amritsar, Bareilly, Dehradun, Purnea, and Agartala, and at 50, 200, and 200  metres in Patiala, Ambala, and Bahraich. Visibility in Delhi, Lucknow, Gaya, Kolkata, North Lakhimpur, and Imphal was about 500 metres.

4.North Rajasthan, isolated areas of Haryana, and sections of Himachal Pradesh saw a cold to severe cold wave yesterday. Daytime temperatures ranged from cold to extremely cold in some isolated areas of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi.

5. Yesterday, there was rain and thunderstorm activity in a number of locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Mahe, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
